When starting any new business venture, you’re bound to make mistakes. The same is to be said for beginning app creators. The good news is that most mistakes are able to be overcome if amends are executed promptly and properly. I know you’re getting anxious for me to get to the four so I won’t keep you waiting any longer…

1. Your app was launched too early!
Don’t do this! Most first time app creators get very antsy right before their app is launched. They want to get it out and selling already! They want to see how it’s perceived by the public. I’ve committed this mistake before many times… don’t feel bad. What you WANT to do is wait until your app is COMPLETELY ready to go live. Work out every kink possible to ensure that’s it’s perfected. In the long run it’ll work out much better.

2. You didn’t spend enough money on advertising!
I know… it sucks. Spending money on advertising campaigns both online and off. They can get very pricey and not all of us have the proper funding available. Unfortunately when too little is spent it’s possible that your app won’t ever realize its potential. The “right” people or blogs (such as TechCrunch and Engadget) won’t see it. The number of buyers you’re looking to achieve may not be realized. All of this could turn a potentially successful app into a dreadful flop.

3. You gave up too early!
I’ve committed this mistake time and time again as well. Most – if not all – online ventures take a LONG time to find success (if they EVER do). Sometimes it can take a year, even two (or longer), and the majority of people tend to give up after only a couple months. Finding success in that short of a time period is nearly impossible. If you had only waited a couple more weeks… a couple more months… you could have become a multi-millionaire. Or not! Regardless, without giving your app enough time and love, the possibilities indeed ARE limited.

4. You were too quiet… BE LOUD!
Many “newbies” keep to themselves and talk perhaps to a few people they run into online. To get anywhere you have to network – BIG TIME! Talk to a LOT of people, and don’t just ask them for help. Don’t just ask if they can do anything for YOU. Do something for THEM, and chances are they will WANT to help you. Especially the people that have been making apps for years… these are individuals that can help get you places (if you have a quality product to begin with, that is).

There you have it folks… four mistakes that you better not make now that you know what they are! If you DO make them, I’ll be very unhappy with you! Just kidding… but don’t take these mistakes lightly. They happen VERY frequently and by knowing they exist, perhaps you’ll be inclined to stay as far away from them as possible.
